Philadelphia

Well I'm not caught up anymore, oh well, I knew it wouldn't last. :)

So yesterday we traveled from Allentown to Philadelphia. We made a stop in Philadelphia to see the Liberty Bell. We also saw Independence Hall, Carpenter's Hall, and a 19th century copy of the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the Articles of Confederation. We had a good time, though we didn't stay long, we wanted to hurry on to D.C. Here are some pictures of what we saw in Philadelphia.

This is a statue of Washington in front of Independence Hall.

Unfortunately they were working on restoring the tower of Independence Hall so there was scaffolding all over it. At least they put that banner over the scaffolding.

This is the chamber where both the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution were debated and signed. It was amazing to stand in the very same room where our Founders stood and brought our nation into being.

This is the very chair that Washington used as President of the Constitutional Convention. You can just about see the sun on the chair that Franklin called a rising sun after the Convention had successfully signed the Constitution.

The Liberty Bell, one of our country's greatest symbols of freedom.

This is Carpenter's Hall where the First Continental Congress met and petitioned King George III during the blockade of Boston Harbor.

Over all, what we saw in Philadelphia was amazing and we are all very glad that we took the time to stop there. We then continued on to D.C. The trip was for the most part uneventful. We did travel through some beautiful countryside in Delaware and we went over a very long bridge that spans the Chesapeake Bay. But we made it to the hotel outside D.C. without a hitch. The day concluded with a trip to the Mother of all health food stores -- a Whole Foods store not too far from our hotel. This place was huge and it had all kinds of healthy food. It even had items that I thought could never be made healthy, or at least not healthy and packaged like non-healthy foods. We got some supplies for dinners so that we could eat at the hotel. We then went to a fast food restaurant called Five Guys for diner (ironic I know, but their food is healthier than McDonalds). They were very much like In-n-Out back in Phoenix (one of our all time favorite fast food joints). The Five Guys food was great, and we ended the day pretty well satisfied with things.

  2. Is it sad that I love hearing the places you get to experience that I take for granted (like Five Guys and Whole Foods)? LOL
